What are your thoughts on this. Cable and central heating pipes in same void between ceiling and floorboards between joists, but not particularly close. A layer of bricks interposed to create two separate compartments in the void to reduce thermal effect on cable.

If there's already decent enough segregation between services then it seems pretty pointless having bricks in there. Unless you have found some ones secret brick collection?

dont worry about it.... you can strap a heating pipe to one side of a brick and clip a cable to the other with no ill effect, the limited heat given out of a central heating pipe will cause at most a mild warming of the opposite side, i believe your over thinking this one or do you mean you want to lay bricks to suppress the heat .... forget it a decent gap is all you require, personally id only have concerns it the cable was strapped to pipe and then it wouldn't damage it too much -but you do need to have a set clearance, as your design current would change with ambient temp'

Thanks guys. I normally try to run them in separate 'voids', but on the job I'm doing it's not practical. Darkwood, you're 100% correct in saying I'm overthinking this one. I normally do. But it's better than underthinking it I suppose!

if you can get a 4" separation, especially if the heating pipes are higher than the cables, don't worry.

Archy, I did think about that but the homeowner doesn't want the expense. Her plumber has also told her it's not needed. She actually expressly forbid me to touch the pipes.
