The 50 pence a month tax will apply to everyone with a fixed line telephone.
You what!?!?

But the Tory MP John Whittingdale said the tax, which could raise up to ÂŁ175m a year to fund high speed networks, would be opposed by the Conservatives.
Don't the telephone companies make enough money out of us to fund these 'high speed networks'? This is just a smoke screen....more like cover the cost of phone bills made by MP's to sex chat lines!!!

"We want to make high speed networks nationally available. The next-generation fund will help that and we will legislate for it this side of a general election," he said.

He told BBC News that the other recommendations of the Digital Britain report would "be built on" in the Digital Economy Bill, which will be presented to parliament in November.
No. Once again the government is taking hold of something that everyone loves and in this case some need and applying a tax on it, it's outrageous!

Business Secretary, Lord Mandelson, has intervened to beef up the government policy on illegal file-sharing, which could include removing persistent offenders from the net.
Wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference. People will still illegal download regardless....
 
Let's face it the government are only taking a lead from the EU. The EU want to tax e-mails and text messages to raise money to paid for their corrupt lifestyle
 
So we have to finance broadband to be installed in the countryside where connection speeds are slow. Why dont they take it out of the petrol money instead
