Anyone here have an in depth knowledge of the aforementioned standard?

If so, I need to know about the requirements for earth pins on plugs feeding class 2 equipment. I know the earth pin is normally plastic on these, but what I need to know is whether or not there is a requirement for it to plastic?

I've found a moulded plug with a brass earth pin feeding a class 2 piece of equipment. Is this dodgy or perfectly acceptable?

I do not know the standards details but so long as the earth is not connected at the other end of the cable to some metal part of the equipment then there is no problem.
If the cable is two core then no problem.
It is not the cable or the plug that is class II it is the equipment.
Otherwise you would not be permitted to plug your class II lawnmower into a 3 core extension cable as there would be a circuit protective conductor in(part of) the supply cable.

Most items I have around the house that are class 2 have a plastic pin but not all. My Sonos play is class 2 but has metal earth pin and 2core flex.

i take it your item in question has 2core flex?

if that helps.

As above^ as far as i was aware, the Class 2 applied to the equipment, and as long as the earth pin on the plug top was not connected electrically, to it,all was well. In the early days of plastic, mobile electrical equipment, there were items which had conventional plug tops and 3 core to the device, with termination of the cpc sealed and labelled "do not connect". This i remember seeing in several of the earlier tyre cutters. My 12 year old was quizzing me regarding plastic earth pins on plug tops, only recently, and i was attempting to explain that the reasons for ensuring earth paths remained constant, whilst the regulations changed depending on a host of other factors...he looked pensive, and said "they make it up as they go along, dad, don't they..." which is something i have suspected for a long time...:stooge_curly:
