morning, going to change some light fittings in old house today, their fuse board is old type 3036 and a little messy... so any tips on locating circuits, and dont i have to fully isolate board to remove bs3036 fuse???? just anything you think i wanna knowww

the lights should be on a 5A fuse ( white spot ). pull all 5A fuses then test at the fittings you will be working on. be carefull though, last year i was on a job where the lights were fed from a 15A, via a secondary fuse board with 5A fuses on both line and neutral. the bottom line is to make sure , by testing , that you have isolated the correct circuit/s. put the fuse/s in your pocket.

and make sure you have a cpc in the fitting/s before you fit any metal ones

best to isolate board with the main switch before handling fuses. if you get a damaged one it might be a wake up call.

immersion heater shoud be on a 15A, ( blue spot ) but be careful. it mght be spurred off a ring.

Don't you just get all choked up when the young'uns fly the nest ...................hope he packed his jam sarnies with him ;)

No seriously all good advice from Tel, just take your time, and don't RUSH IN

all sorted now and i do test before touch.
ive seen some fuse locators on websites , are they must for most electricians . old houses ,messy unmarked boards.

i never use one. i pull all the fuses and stick them back in one by one to see what each one does.

Cheers.........Howard

makes sense howard to you have someone on the walkie talkies, or do you put in the miles. also with them bs3036 fuses would be quite annoying, isolating then inserting then turning on..

the old econnemy 7 heaters, what current do the use? , if you know, or is there all different sizes
