Hi im after a MK 3871 type 2 40a breaker does any one have one for sale or know if there is a breaker that will match

Yes, a BS:EN 60898 type B 40 amp would probably be your best bet... Depending on the design and age of the old MK MCB it may be worth going to a wholesalers with the old MCB and asking them what the best match would be so that you don't have to make any modifications to the board. I know that MK used to do a retrofit kit for fitting new style MCB's into their old boards, but I've heard that they've now been discontinued....

The board is an old MK , no longer in use , 60898 breakers wont fit , I have an old LN 5932 32A in my van , but not sure if it would hold up on a 8.5 kw shower, I know the shower pulls a higher load at max but would it ever be used on max?

Yeah, I know that the MK 60898 ones won't fit straight into the board, because as far as I'm aware the old ones have a hole in the busbar that you have to screw onto, whilst the new style have forks that you have to clamp down onto. IIRC, Wylex do MCB's that will fit onto these correctly... Honestly, the best bet is to go to the wholesalers with one of the ones you would like to replace, and ask if they have an MCB to suit. Some will say that you cannot mix and match different makes of MCB, as the board will have only been type tested with the same make of device, but in my mind if the design is such that it will offer exactly the same mechanical fixings, then it's much more sensible to do this than to change a whole board out, or put an extra enclosure next to the board. They also do generic MCB's of all differing shapes and sizes.

Just a though of course, :)
