Hi chaps, it's been a while since I was on here as I no longer do much electrical installation work... Went back into the world of live events, primarily as a sound engineer and hoping to get some additional work as an onsite sparks.

Got a course on Thursday and Friday to certify me as competent to work in accordance with BS 7909 for Temporary Electrical Installations (i.e.: outdoor concert stages, film sets etc)

Unfortunately I've made a major balls up and haven't ordered my copy of the regs in time. I've also not been able to find anywhere I can buy a copy of 7909 locally...

Does anyone in the Chelmsford/Essex/South East London area have a copy which I could borrow for a couple of days? Alternatively, does anyone have a digital copy which they could send me? (not be intending to keep a pirate copy, I promise! Just really need one for a couple of days while mine is in the post from Amazon!)

Alternatively, does anyone know a book shop or electrical wholesaler which keeps copies of the regs in stock?

Really appreciate any help anyone can give me!

Is this the Bectu skillset course?

I have done this course and i found it hard going. it was 2 days of constant work, really it should have been a 3 day course. The way I see it is its a bolt on course for sparks who have done the 2391 or 2394/2395 and it gives you the additional knowledge of BS 7909. so you can work in the entertainment industry.

In the two days they never had a tester out and they didn't explain how to test or what results you should expect so in my eyes if you haven't got the city and guilds testing you will struggle to understand the test results. its ok plugging in the tester but you have to understand what its saying.

A mate of mine went on a 7909 course, apparently the lecturer mentioned one of my jobs as an example of one he had inspected.

I was less than impressed as it's the first time I'd heard of there having been an inspector on the site, you'd think they'd at least have the common decency to introduce themselves when they come visiting.

Cheers for the help guys.

Been in touch with the guy who is running the course and he's said I'll be fine without a full copy of BS7909.

Gazthesparky, yes it's the BECTU course. I've not formally got the 2391, but I've got a decent amount of time on the tools and tester so hopefully I'll be ok with a bit of hard graft for a couple of days.
