Anyone know if you can have a BT RED CARE line connected to both a Fire Alarm & Intruder Alarm at the same time??

You can aslong as the intruder alarm is capable of providing a full 24 hour battery backup. This usually means the stu is mounted in a separate housing, on own batteries.

Don't get me started on these monitoring services ... unless you have the full cctv or audio listening set up they can't call the emergency services and only notify the owner the alarm is ringing ... i can fit a autodialler for a one of cost which is probably a quarter of what they charge annually for the same service. Ive taken several vulnerable elderly and small commercial set ups off these money vultures and fitted a one off unit for less than ÂŁ100 ... i had one elderly customer been charged ÂŁ400 a year for monitoring she didn't need as she never went out... i had the auto dialler contact 3 family members if the alarm went off as it also had a panic button by a bed ... her family were overly grateful for the alternative better system.

Redcare, is full monitoring Darkwood, and has a police unique reference number for police and fire response.
can only be installed by a nacoss, nisia or bafe installer

Well on that note then other lesser reputable monitoring systems that prey on the domestic market...but i did say unless they have full monitoring of which you inform me Redcare is one such company.

yes you connect both systems to 1 red care line the stu sends out different signal to a 24 hour monitoring station and they than call the key holder the police and the fire brigade depending on what signal is sent

Totally agree with the type of monitoring your talking abaut, especially when it comes to the eldely. But Recare is ACPO, governed by Police standards. Basically a reference number needs to be obtained from local Police HQ, to obtain full police and fire response. Without this reference number, it is how you say totally useless

The problem is the insurance companies demanding you install it so they will cover you had many an argument with insurance risk assessors on site over this but you will never win without it costing you or compromising the insurance cover

So have they stopped SSAIB approved companies installing RedCare

Yes and as soon has you have a couple of false alarms they take your cover away

this is were the ACPO standards come in, 3 strikes and your out......cant be wasting our local services on false alarms

Glad I'm out of the monitored intruder alarms the number of times the police had turned up to sites supposedly checked the perimeter of the building and found nothing logged it as a false alarm and gone then when I got to site you find there had been a break in when you contact the police all you get is they are never wrong and won't re attend site and amend the false alarm to a genuine.

The best one had to be when I was called by a keyholder as someone had broken in and gone mad cutting the cables to the fire panel and some of the intruder cables when I got there the police were still on site and had checked through the building a quick check of the intruder panel log indicated that whoever broke in was still in the building which the police were adamant couldn't be correct so I showed them the log and they had to agree with me a couple of minutes later the intruder was found in a large office cupboard in a room they had checked earlier

ACPO, change the policies, as they go along, always for their benefit and the insurance companies.......seeing more and more private security companies conducting monitoring and response now, think the days on relying on police response has gone now.

The days of relying on a quick police response became hit and miss many years ago IMO back in the late 90's it was not uncommon to see the police turn up 2 or 3 hours after the monitoring company had contacted them but on other occasions it was instant. One alarm activation had 11 officers and 2 dogs in 7 vehicles turn up within 5 minutes at another site the following day it got zero response to the alarm activation.

I have not seen any of the ACPO policy changes for the last 10 years or so but back then they appeared to be trying to move towards a chargeable or privatised response to alarm systems which would only help any intruders maximise their take

That explanation would make a lot of sense and would certainly explain the new bases and new boxes, with old relabelled alarm heads. I do remember...
