Hi can someone tell me if this is right.
just been called in to add 1 extra downlight that is 1 meter away from existing light in a bathroom. would that mean i would have to notify building control at a cost of what i can see of ÂŁ250 plus adding r.c.d protection to the bathroom. The c.u. is an old rewirable box with m.c.bs plugged in which has no main switch so i could fit an r.c.d. to the circuit. That would mean pulling dno fuse which is illegal or getting them to do it. More money for the customer.
So all in all 1 light would cost ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ's. Is this correct. I know i need to get registered but how can i even start to do small jobs without this cost.

If you're not registered and experienced, this is the sort of job you should walk away from.

Yes, adding a light to the bathroom is notifiable.

Yes, you would have to add RCD protection to the bathroom circuits.

If there really is no main switch, this installation is dangerous and is in urgent need of improvement.

The DNO will often disconnect and reconnect at no charge, depending on where you are.

Yes, changing the wiring in the bathroom will cost ÂŁÂŁÂŁ.

If you're not registered, and you are competent, then to gain experience take on the non-notifiable jobs that are within your competence. Do them to the regs; test and certify as required using your calibrated test equipment.
