Have Been asked to replace old wylex consumer unit in a bungalow there are five circuits in it Cooker, Shower, Immersion, Ring main, Lighting My question is if I provide a 8 way 17th edition split load rcd consumer unit How would you best divide up the circuits?

There is only a single lighting circuit would it be best to split the light and sockets between the rcds?

well shower & immersion on different rcds so they can still wash
cooker & ring on different rcds so they can still cook food (using microwave for example)
lights i would put on with shower and cooker for example, dont put lights on with ring so they can use lamps plugged in for light.

i thought of that firs lenny, but then i thought of the scenario of ligting going off in kitchen while cooking, and possible burns. being in shower, and lights go off on my opinion isnt so much of a problem, as long as they dry hands before touching board

I would go with rcbos or you could also run a new feed to the lighting circuit in the hall from a dual rcd board so at least they have some lights in event of a trip-fairly easy and cheap in a bungalow

What about the cooker hood plugged into the ring final????:p;):(:D

Surely it's only split to allow some degree of power or lighting to be left on would just split it with lights on one and ring on other The aim is leave something on for emergency use not for a prolonged time

as it's a bungalow i would split the lighting into 2 circuits. easily done, and then either split between RCDs or use RCBOs.
