Evening all,

Are any of your business's partnerships??
Im having a bit of a nightmare atm, customers saying they don't want my business partner back to do work for them!! And even having to go and fix stuff he has wired wrong......

Now I've also discovered he isn't even a spark.... despite finishing college at the same time as me, turns out he left without finishing.

I think i will have to leave and go as a sole trader,

Any advice???

Thanks

It's not a limited company.
Just a 50/50 partnership.
I can just seeing him being a c**t, if I leave.
Seeming as I'm company QS and I now know he hasn't the quals to be a registered company if I leave lol.
I guess that aint my problem.....
Thanks for the advice guys

Does he have other qualities that would warrent keeping the partnership going? Accountancy? Marketing etc? I am assuming that he is a friend of kinds as you entered into business with him. Just thinking if getting him off the tools and into a management/support role would be viable

Hi RISElectrical.

He is a good mate yes, although I do feel that I am loosing money hand over fist.
I don't think keeping the partnership going is going to work.

I think I'll just bite the bullet.....

Thanks

or, get him to put his suit on and go round talking to estate agents, letting agents, etc. drumming up business. you never know, he might be good at that.

i completely agree with tel. just because somebody is a good tradesman, it doesnt mean that he will be able to run a succesful business. The same applies in reverse.

cut him loose and go it alone, get another half decent installer and put him on a wage and earn a bit on him

if its just because he is your friend that you are staying with him and fear upsetting him, it will be worse in the long run as you will get bitter and twisted
having to keep carrying him and fixing his mess

also if he is upsetting your customers then this is damaging your business relationships and they may start to go elsewhere

you may also start getting tarred with the same brush, out of every person who complains there are probably a few who dont but they may well find someone else next time!

PS.If you plan to get him dressed up in a suit and send him out touting for work, your gonna have to work your NUTS OFF to cover a wage for the pair of you!!

How many customers are you talking about and what type of faults is he creating ?
I think you need to expand on the problem a little bit just so the advise given by others , is a little more tailored to your case .

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think giving him a job in a suit is sustainable as there is just the two of us and an apprentice. Who I think is working to a better standard of work.

Some of the faults he has left are,

Leaving live 10mm crimps in the loft electrocuting apprentice when he was putting insulation back.

Leaving a women with out lights cos he couldn't trace a fault on a new lighting circuit he installed, when it was just a sw l and n reversed.

Earthing gas with a rod. Lol

And Lots more.

And generally a lack of understanding of the regs and generally how things work, and how to wire them.

I've put up with this for the last year, it's getting ridiculous.
I think before that we worked on the same jobs so I was carrying him. Now we have to much to do to do that, the problems have started.

Thanks guys

Sustainability is difficult if he were to don a suit as to cover his wage you would probably need another 2 guys working for you and then of course mr suit would need to find work for everyone to make it work...

... Damaging the company name might be a pointless worry as the easiest path for you may be to sign your half over to him and go alone, trying to get him out could be very difficult
