Had a meeting with business gateway today with regards to starting out myself. Was advised to draw up a business plan asap, do any of you have any advice on what should be included to make a good plan? Thanks in advance.

List EVERTHING that you expect to spend in the first year, with approx dates. Seperate out fixed and variable costs.

Determine how much cash you need in the bank...

estimate income, per month.

Use a spreadsheet

All the banks do very good start up guides, templates for plans etc. There are also some very good resources available online, go searching.

What was the point of going to a business startup advice centre if all the advice they gave you was 'come up with a business plan'? THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE THERE TO HELP YOU WITH!!!!!!!!

Go back and tell them to do their bloody job!

FFS this stuff boils my blood.

Good luck, and of course we will help you as much as we can, but what are THEY FOR??????

They should step up to the mark, or be reported for being a waste of taxpayer's money.

She gave me some info on business plans but it is not dedicated to the trade, she is going to email me some more info on monday. Just wanted to know if there was anythin specific to the trade that should be included

As Murdoch has already said. You need to produce a cash flow forecast (spreadsheet ) . This should include your living expenses, insurances personal/transportation/public liability, in fact every expense you think you might incur over the coarse of a year . Then on your forecast show what months these payments fall due. then try and calculate what you might earn over those months. Also include any monies/securities you have. They will be looking to see if you can actually afford to live without taking on loans. It may well be that once you have all this info in front of you, you might change your mind.

Scanking customers is the afternoon session of day 7. Day 19 is to assess how well the candidate has taken the lesson on board.

He’ll not get in the 3000 for a while.
