Do not for one moment under estimate the contribution Greg Barker made to our industry. He is one of the few Tory politicians who fully appreciates the dangers and impact of climate change (the other notable one being William Hague). He 'gets' solar and understands it's potential. He fought long and hard with the Treasury and internally at DECC over many issues. No, we are never going to get everything we want because of political expediency, ideological detractors, heavy influence from the fossil fuel/nuclear industry and incompetence in DECC. Having said that, the guy did a good job in the circumstances and should be congratulated for his efforts.
I have never voted Tory in my life and never will. Good political action is about expediency, not ideology. Greg is a good example of getting your head down and getting on with it. You can be sure there are fundamental issues on which he and I would disagree, but as with most things in life, on 80% to 90% of things you wouldn't get a cigarette paper between us. I wish him every success when he leaves Parliament at the next election.
