Can anybody exlpain to me how i can upgrade my c course qualifications city and guilds, and what courses i would need to do to work on domestic/ industrial installs and be able to test and certify them.

Also can you do work on the side eg work for a company, but also register yourself to do your own work in the spare time available

Cheers
Dean

yes you can work for a firm and also be registered to do your own work, cant advise on c course as i dont know what it is, but the minimum requirement is usually a domestic installer cert.

ah well as we now work to the 17th an update is required, you may be allowed to sit the short exam but to be honest may as well to the full one it can be done at college over a full week or spread out one day a week over ten for around ÂŁ100, or through a private training provider (costs more) some places offer an exam only option so you can just go and sit the multiple choice exam.

minimum qualifications as stated by Napit website
such as C&G 2360 Part 2 or an NVQ level 3, orA Certificate of Competence to ISO 17024 covering full scope electrical work

Course C was the 4th year of the 2360 when I was in college.

It was quite in depth and covered many aspects of the design & construction & inspection + testing of an electrical installation including a project.

The C course is still highly respected by those in the industry old enough to remember it today. The closest thing to it today would be the C&G 2391-20 design erection & verification, although it doesn't dig quite as deep as the old C course.

It sounds like you've done the 2360 1&2 and course C, so I suggest a 17th ed course and maybe the 2391-10 inspection + testing as the next step.

By gaining the above qualies and adding them to what you already hold, will gain you technician status with the JIB and enable you to be put forward as QS with an NICEIC AC if you so wished.

I currently live in australia but will be changing my qualifications over Lenny would the above let me do my own work and certify it with the additional courses? Im currently working as a electrical inspector in Aus is there any work around england in that role? i would be in the cumbria area

In order to self certify domestic electrical work in England & Wales under Part P of the building regulations you would need to become a memeber of one of the self certifiaction schemes, NAPIT, NICEIC, ELECSA etc.

They each have their own rules & regs for enrolement and each have their own fees. A 17th ed qualie would be a minimum for any one of them, some will also ask for the 2391-10 also.

As for work in Cumbria, not a clue mate sorry.

I did the C course in the mid 80's....forgotten all about it!.....when was it scrapped?

Probably when the pass rate dropped to below 10% ;)

That course was excellent, only the 2391-20 comes close, I remember my 'C' course project was a health centre and I felt like I learned more doing that project than I had in the previous 3 years of the 236!
