hi all, i have my 204 exam soon just want a second opinion on my answers to the questions and any advice given would be great.
Q1 why does the choke voltage and lamp voltage not add up to the supply voltage.
A1 the voltages across the choke and tube do not add up to the supply volatge due to the choke being an inductor producing a back EMF causing the voltage to lead the current by 90 degrees, they are out of phase..
Q2 explain the effect a capacitor has on the supply current of an inductive load.
A2 A capacitor will cause the current to lead the voltage so by adding this into an inductive load it will bring the current closer to being in phase with the voltage, this is know as power factor correction.
i will add phasor diagrams to the above on the day...
as for Q1 im sure i can use a right angled triangle to show this but looking through my notes i cant find were we did it.
