I am just about to sign up to start the 2330 level 2, but what I want to know is whether these qualifications are necessary
to become an electrician or are there other combinations
qualifications that are just as suitable to cover what is required to work as a full electrician.

Cheers

Stuart

In short, yes, they are neccessary. To be fully qualified you would then need to complete your C&G 2356 and AM2. However, you say that you are just about to sign up, personally, I would get yourself on the C&G 2357. The 2357 is essentially the new 2330 and 2356 combined into one. It's a three year course normally and your final year would also be spent on site, as well as at college completing the NVQ side of the 2357. The qualification gained at the end would be an advanced diploma in electrotechnical technology. This course also qualifies you to the 17th edition meaning that you wouldn't need to complete the C&G 2382.
