Ive just started this course 3 weeks ago, I've been working as an electrical designer/wireman for the last 4 years but have no qualifications (just experience) which counts for nothing these days. I am desperate to finish this course asap and get my papers! We are 3 weeks in and we have probably wrote under 300 words alltogether in class, it is extremely slow and at this rate will probably take around 4 years to finish. I have started on Units 301, 302 & 305 and have taken it apon myself to start going through all the outcomes for the units and gathering as much info on each as I can. I am already ahead of my group. My plan is lash on with what I can for these units and try and complete the assignments before they are given to the class. I need to finish this course within 2 years. I think as long as I get my head down I can do it. Has anyone or is anyone else doing this course? Any ideas what the assignments are or where I can find them? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Your college will be working to a timetable, and as far as i am aware, the 2357 is a 3 year course.
As well as your assignments, which you cant do until you are given them, and guided on what you need to do to complete them, there is the NVQ element of it, on which you will be assessed.

ALL qualifications have to be earned, and in achieving them you have to meet the required standards in both knowledge and performance, you will struggle to achieve this unless you receive the appropriate amount of guided learning hours. You cant just "lash" through it, if i gave you the assignments, and you went off all guns blazing and did your own thing, you would make a right pigs ear of it, resulting in you wasting your time, and then having to do it all again properly.

There is a well known saying "Learn to walk before you try to run", and in your case (and that of a lot of my apprentices) the saying fits.

Calm down, and do the course properly, and remember that the college don't want you in training for any longer than you need to be, they only get paid once, so they want you out asap.

OP was 3 weeks ago. he's probably applied to niceic as a DI by now. :lipsrsealed2:

Thanks for the reply,

I have just changed colleges as the one I was in was a shambles, Ive done more in 1 week at my new one than i did in 7 weeks at my old one.

I understand that qualifications need to be earned, I wouldnt want it any other way. Ive effectively done my time, just havent got the papers to go with it. Im a contractor, paying for the course myself (ÂŁ2500 a year!) so was just hoping to get a head start :) However, the course is run a lot better at Newcastle College so should be fine.

If you dont mind me asking which college were you at for the previous 7 weeks?

Only asking as ive just started the c+g 2365 course at North Tyneside College and its interesting to know what the other local colleges are like.

South tyneside college, south shields. It was a complete shambles mate.

The course leader got suspended 2 weeks in, another lecturer quit 4 weeks in, so there was only 1 guy left who was a temp and only took us for health and safety.

They wanted ÂŁ2000 per year (which I have to pay myself) So I quickly changed to Newcastle college and started this week on day release. Its ÂŁ2500 per year but already I can see that it is definately worth the extra cost.

I hope things are better for you at North tyneside! :)

Yeah im really enjoying it so far, tutors are spot on and learning loads. I looked at newcastle and gateshead colleges but they didnt have anything that i could fit around my shifts as i work full time.

Like i say im doing the c+g 2365 at level 2 and it has cost me ÂŁ1440 in total for the 2 year course... i wont have the nvq elements at the end of it that you will be doing but i can fit this course around my shifts so its a start!

Yeah definately! Yeah the 2357 is a level 3 diploma with the NVQ & AM2 elements, I work full time aswell, so have to make up time lost for day release to college or I wont get paid for it.

Lots of coursework to do at home but will be worth it in the end!

If i worked in the industry i would have went for that course as well but im a machine setter in a printing factory so i'll have to go the long way about it!

In a fortnights time i'll be finishing a 12hour shift at 6:00am monday morning then going to college for 9:00 - 16:00 and back at work for another 12 hour shift at 18:00 that night... like you say though hopefully the sacrifices are worth it in the end!

Best of luck with your course anyway mate!
