Hi every one i know i haven't been active on this site in a while but been busy and going to start been more active.

Just wanted some advice, basically i finished my technical certificate of the c&g 2357 3 full years just needed to finish my nvq 3 and the am2 of which i finished the am2 (i have the certificate for that) but haven't been able to finish the nvq 3 as i have been having some very bad problems with college, basically about a year ago i emailed the college asking why i hadn't received my certificates from the 3rd year and they turned around and said "you have no certificates to come as you did not do your 3rd year only 1st and 2nd" so basically it has took me about 8 months to sort this by doing a formal complaint and following through on it and talking to city and guilds and they are now saying i was there but never completed all the assignments (which i did) and now i am going to have to go back to college a complete the 3rd year again.

I think this is so wrong as i was told the assignments where completed and now i am going to have to go back and do a full year all over again and pay for it which will be around 2 grand, i am not that bothered about the money but i am bothered that my boss has said that he will not give me the time off work to go to college as i now work away from home Monday - Friday so if i go back to college i would basically lose my job and need to find a new one.

Is they a way for me to get qualified without having to go back to college to complete this like a adult learner route as i am 27 year old and already have all the knowledge and my certs from year 1 and 2 and my cert for the am2 and i also have the experience as i was working as a mate for 6 years and i am working now as a electrician not a mate.

Hi Baker1988,

The situation you're in stinks of malpractice by your college. Surely they have some evidence of your attendance to correlate with your 3rd year exams, etc. Really hope you get this sorted out mate.

Best regards

Jim

thanks for the reply, yes i have at first they said i wasnt there and after proving that i was there they are now saying that not all of the assigments are completed, as it was the 2357 you get a lot of assignment to be done in class and not as many actual tests there is only 1 actual C&G test in the 3rd year unit 309 the rest are assignments of which i have proved i was there and proved i competed the test but they are saying the assignments have not been fully completed

Mate i honestly wouldnt be giving up that easily you will find me in that college in the electrical department making sure i get that cert. You done the year dont waste your time , money or let alone your job. Surely some teachers there that you gave the assignements to can vouch for you

As above, i would quite simply not stand for it. The situation does sound bizarre to be honest. Has someone at the college made a big error somewhere?

My college was quite disorganised to be honest. That said we had a great tutor just before he retired.

Sorry for the late reply lads, thank you for your responses and that is exactly what i did i was constantly on the phone with the electrical department every day i rang them to get this sorted and i even rang the principal of the college a few times a week, and would you beleave it because i did not give in and just go back to college all of a sudden my "lost assignments" turned up and i got a call from my old tutor saying my assignments are been processed and that i would receive my certificates in the post very soon.

Thank god for this so i am now fully qualified as i also have my full 2357 qualification (technical cert, nvq 3, and am2) finally.

Well done mate, that was the only way to sort it in my eyes - I'd have dragged the papers in and everything until something was done about it.

Perhaps I worry too much, but it is reasons like this that I take a photo of every piece of practical work I do in the workshop, and I have backup copies of everything paperwork. If it ever happens to me one day, hopefully I'll be able to send them a copy of everything.
