I recently upgraded someones old rewire able consumer unit with wylex mcb's.

The problem being the kitchen lights are all on 1 old torrodo transformer so every time they turn the lights on i think the surge is tripping the b type 6a. I can't seem to find a c type or a b10

Any advice???

I suppose if there aren't i would either have to put the 6a re-wirerable back in or upgrade the tranny???

what have you done here?...done away with the 3036s...and utilised plug in breakers?..if so then theres no C curve plug in MCBs available.....stupid really...as i think they should be...

yes mate thats all I've done. tel has found some actually 6 Amp SP Wylex MCB C Type - Motor Rated - 10kA

netblindpaul you really need to get out more. i am a competent electrician just helping someone out not carrying out a full inspection report. i put like for like amp breakers going by the cable sizes i saw adequate.

go and annoy someone else
But that isn't suitable for a 3036 plug in replacement MCB type arrangement is it?

I'm probably just going to put a standard b10 in as the cable is 1.5mm. or just put the 6a re-wireable back in.

I'm not sure they did plug-in 10A MCBs, think it was only 5A type 2 (early) and/or 6A type B (later). Doubt very much if a 10A type 2 or B would solve the problem anyway, as its the instantaneous high inrush current that's taking the breaker out. You will be much better served using the Wylex HRC fuse holder, as suggested earlier by Tel!!

EDIT

OK, just found that they did do a 10A in the switch type B MCB's but not in the push button Type 2 MCB's.... Still better off with the HRC fuse set up though!!

These ridiculously extreme posts have to be a wind up?

Some on this forum don't even bother doing prechecks before CU change - and you are slamming this guy??

I don't believe I would go round pulling down spots to check transformers even on a board change!

The worst outcome for the OP is he will have to replace the 3036, don't see how this is an issue of competence.

Think it's more a case of catching some people at the wrong time and place. I know we shouldn't then be replying to such posts, but it's at those times it's the most difficult ...Not too....lol!!

How many lights and what type on the Tranny Fella?

its fine guys. for someone so incompetent I've work coming out of my eyes at the moment (maybe he's upset because he hasn't!)

he's just another one on here who thinks he's the number 1 electrician in the world.
