C/u inside garage - needed or not?

Does a detached garage neccessarily require a consumer unit ?
Is a 16A radial installed in 2.5mm 3core SWA (protected by 30mA RCD @ Main C/U), sufficient and compliant?
Circuit only supplies 1 x light & 1 x twin socket.

Came across this today quoting for something else and the customer asked the question.
Personnally , i would rather the cable be bigger with C/U supplied. However, replacing SWA would not be practical due to block paving etc...
Would like to give the customer a definative answer, cheers fella's

Perfectly ok providing the MCB is suitably rated and the circuit is also RCD protected.

There should also be a sw spur for the light.

Thanks for that Jason Yes there is a switch spur and it does have a 3A fuse.

Again the Forum comes up trumps, being able to bounce off others guys when your on your own is a great help, cheers.

I have seen loads of outbuildings wired like this, and i agree with Jason.

yeah nothing wrong with this as long as everything is fused properly and rcd protected. Good way to keep the cost down
