I am thinkig of buying a set of GRP (or similar) cable access rods and accessories. There seems to be a huge range available from super rod mega set at around £100 to smaller sets from silverline at around £15.

I was wondering what you guys have found the most useful and if one brand is better than the rest. It seems like super rod are the best out there with the most accessories, but I may be wrong.

thanks

Cheaper one tend to have a very short life and break easy is the general opinion from previous threads on this topic I got mine from super rod at the lower end of the budget and touch wood no problems with them so far:)

Yep go with the Superrods.

Totally brilliant IMO and got me out of many a hole.

Buy the best you can afford, and if you loose any or break any, you can purchase rods direct from them for around £11 a pair.

The more expensive ones tend to be thicker and less flexible which can be good or bad depending on your situation. But as reported before when they do get overstressed on a bend they do give off horrible splinters and they are horrible when they get in your skin.

As an alternative to rods I have a polypropylene fish tape called the RAT available from a web site called all about electrics costs approx £44 but it will bounce off everything and wont coil up even though it is kept in a coil shape when storing.
It will travel through trunking around bends everywhere without snagging,of course you should not pull cables over long distances and around bends from one point.
It will also travel through floors ,walls, ceiling voids without snagging.

I also have the rods system but have found you lose a rod here and there by wear and tear or just trying to use them through bends that are a bit too much for their rigidity. (Even though that might be my fault)

The rat has a much better bending radius, the length of the rat is 15mtrs and also comes with similar attachments as the rods .

Just thought I would offer an alternative, horses for courses so to speak.

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.
