Hi All

A few question from the learner.

Does cable have to be a certain depth in the wall?
Does it have to be in trunk/conduit?
Does it have to run only horizontal and vertical? (diagonal??)
How do you fix the oval trunk to the wall before the plasterer does the finish.

Thanks

If cable is not RCD protected it has to be 50mm or more if RCD protected does not matter.
No you can put cable in and plaster over it yourself if left to a plaster protect it with conduit incase he damages the cable
Always run cable horizontal and vertical best practice if diagonal protect with steel conduit
If you have enough depth it will stay in postion when plastered over.

Read something I had skipped over in my 2330 notes last week...

If cables are just clipped into the chase & plastered over with no protection, eg: capping/oval, when the plaster or cement goes off (hardens) it gives off heat which in turn causes some degradation of the sheathing. (How much I don't know), but perhaps this could have a slight adverse effect on your IR readings...

Or it could be C&G Nonsense?....

Plaster does get a bit warm when it goes off, but if that's enough to degrade the insulation, we've got no hope!

Don't some kinds of plaster do something to the plasticisers in old T+E? Possible effects if chasing in existing cables. I'm probably wrong.

I've not heard of plaster causing issues with the plasticizer in pvc cables, but certainly polystyrene can cause problems if brought into contact with pvc cables for extended periods of time - the plasticizer migrates away from the pvc causing the cable to become brittle.
