What issues, if any, would there be if using a swa resin joint that is dated 2009? Why would there be a use by date?

Cable size would be 25mm 3core

Use it, I've had them in stores for 10 years and had no trouble.

Me too, I've used joint kits that are several years old without problems but I've had a couple of joint kits that were still in date but were un-boxed and laying open in a vehicle in heat and sunlight and the resin didn't cure properly. It's a swine of a job to clean half-set resin out of a joint so I tend to play it safe now, make sure they're stored cool and dark and throw the out of date ones away.

new resin is made from a "safer" compound than used in 2009 but as usual common sense will have to be used.

Skin diseases are among the most important emerging risks related to extensive use of, and exposure to, chemicals by cable jointers. Under new EU regulations coming into force in December 2010, conventional isocyanate-based cable joint encapsulating resins will be re-classified as a Category 3 carcinogen and will have to carry a warning stating that they are “suspected of causing cancer by inhalation”.

I tried one i had in the stores a year out of date and the resin had separated like a watery oil mix, I did not know if it was going to go off and set so binned it. I was charging the kit on the job anyway so no loss, just wanted to use up some stock but hey ho.
