Hi

I was wondering what the correct way or what people prefer to do with cable ends that are still live but are no longer required BUT access to remove them is not good due to lay out etc.

The socket faces will be removed thus leaving a back box with live cable ends in.

The wall is then going to be replastered over.

So what is the safe way to leave the cable if live but removal not possible??

Your replies would be most appreciated.

Chris

No matter how good or bad the access, you cant leave redundant live cables. It must go under a floor or somewhere, so you need to trace it back and cut it off, then under the floor you can put it into a JB and leave it safe. If the hole is to be filled, then you need to chase it out to free the cable, it just means a bit more filling, and this is a whole lot safer than live cables in walls, cos no one knows where they are.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it is not as bad as being told someone has been killed or injured because of something that was your fault.

Cheers........Howard

Thanks - thought as much and by no means are you both the bearer of bad news. Only bearers of the right new.

So no burying in the wall and plastering directly over lol.

The electrics are all over the place in the house he has moved into and seems to be cable ends turning up all over the place. So should be all fun on the way.

Thanks guys for the reply.

Chris

You could terminate the ends in wagos or connector block and fit a blanking plate, thereby leaving them accessible.
Otherwise find a way of removing them completely.

agree with all above. if you must leave them in the wall, then a blanking plate, visible, not plastered over. this would ensure any connections are accessible

check wich cb on the board controls that cicuit, then strip all surounding circuits (the closest one first. that cable must come from somewhere, then dissconect it
