Next week I'm first fixing a extension which is basically doubling the size of the house. The customer now wants solar panel's, I don't install these but my dad does but he's currently sunning it up in Lanzorote. There is not much room by the CU for the inverter, can this be in the attic? or is it bad practice? I just need to know so I can either run a DC cable from the attic or not.

I would usually get my dad to do this work but he has decided to give me his phone too.

Yes you can install the inverter in the loft, some prefer this as it keeps all the DC cables out of harms way, others prefer to install the inverters where it is cooler, IE garage/utility room as they may perform better when conditions are hot, also they may last a little longer.
You really should calculate the A/C length, and what size system is being fitted so you install the correct size cable, also if the cable you install is buried in the wall then it will need RCD protection (not shared, long story..), as not all PV systems need RCD protection.

I hope this helps.

it's a 4KW system he wants installed, should do really as he will have plenty of roof once completed. He was going on about RCD disconnection times on a split load board about a year ago!

Think i'll just run a 4mm cable to the attic as it's not a very long run at all.
