I was just wondering,...

the company i am working for are talking about modifying a unit that we work on. It have an input Amperage of around 7 amps. Until now they have been using 2 twisted 24 AWG calbes to power the DC to DC. Until the other week one of the cables failed in the unit which left the cable to draw all the amps through just one. Whis then caused the connectors and remauining cable to burn out.

So .. now they have decided to bring the power in on a 14 AWG cable and solder 5x24 AWG cables to it to spread the load over the input on the dc to dc.

Im just wondering, is this the done thing or are there regulations against this?

The voltage is only 20v but to me this just doesnt seem the correct way to do things.

Cheers people!!

Alex

Also forgot to mention the 24 guage and connectors are only rated at a max of 5.45 amps so under the potential total of the load at 6-6.5 amps.

thank you.
