Cable tray query

Sorry, an odd question . Does anyone have any experience of these. Would the steel 100mm hhvy duty type be strong enough to support wheeling an ebike over (say) 5feet onto a towbar bike rack ??

Will the tow bar bike rack support the weight of an e-bike?


Most tray installs are supported every 2 feet or so, and can take quite a bit considering the weight of a number of big heavy cables, but I don’t think anyone’s tried tray as a ramp across such a gap.

if you mean laying a bit of tray from the floor up to a roof rack so you can push the bike up onto the top of a vehicle I would say no it wouldn,t handle the load, if this isn't what you mean then sorry about my reply

Thanks. Almost. The rack is towbar mounted so about 500mmoff Road level.

Seriously, if you look at the spec for the tray it will tell you.
Look at the graph of load against span (example below, but you need the data for what you propose to buy), and see how it correlates with the weight of your bike and the span you need.
It's entirely your decision to determine if it's suitable.

Thanks. That's really helpful. Shows 40kg will span 2.0m which is more than enough. And so much cheaper than those offered by the likes of Thule. Just need to work out an element of "foldability" so it can be stowed inside the car!!!!

if you put the tray on 2 breeze blocks 2 mtrs apart and stood on it then I am pretty sure it would bend and end up touching the floor, still it is cheap enough, just buy a length and give it a go

Just add some context, my eBike is, in fact, an eTrike. Weighs about 40kg and, of course, that'll be spread over 3 wheels . So, I'm feeling confident.

Trike weighs 40kg. Rack 16kg. Max nose weight for towbar 100kg. Some racks take 4 ebikes. Hopefully will be OK.
