Hello all.
I've got my first inspection next week with NIC. Just been doing some reading through my paperwork, and they require a record of consistency of my Megger. I've had the instrument for about 3 months now and used on 3 jobs, I have the orginal calibration sheet from the supplier. So a couple of questions.
1.What test's do they require me to be doing on my instrument?
2. How do i do them?
3. Does anybody have a sample of a record log sheet.
4. How often do i do them.

Thanks for any advice.

You do not need all these cal cards and check boxes etc if you have them calibrated annually with a traceable certificate.

The NIC do say that you dont need to have them done that often if you do keep regular checks and records etc.

You can buy a selection of resistors eg 0.2ohm, 2 ohm, 200ohm, 2Mohm for continuity and resistance checks. I've got 2 sockets, one RCD protected the other not that I use to check the "live test" accuracy of my meter.
Much cheaper than a check box! ;)

I was looking to set one of these up myself, are those resistors enough and of adequate values to keep mr NIC
inspector happy?

Seen calcards on ebay for £20. Had my first inspection today and showed him my calibration record sheet (unused as of yet as just started testing). He was happy me using cal card and with my sheet. then designating a socket at hoem to do rcd test and Zs.

Hi mate in the same boat as u only its not next week. Can u recommend a check box and if anyone answers your question please let me know.Jay fellow sparks

The value of the resistors should cover 60% of the range to ensure Linearity

For Continuity 0.5 - 10 ohm

Insulation 0.5M - 50M ohm

When i was working for an NICEIC Approved Contractor we had to show a monthly check of all the testers against a check box to show they were still accurate. However now i am self employed and joined the NICEIC Domestic installer scheme I went and bought a checkbox started keeping records before my inspection then the inspector tells me i dont need to keep records just show an annual calibration certificate.

So Approved contractors need to keep regular checks Domestic installers dont.

Personally i cant see the sense in this, but hey what can you do.

Hi all
i was NICEIC and are now Napit registerd
both are happy with the check boxes and calibration sheets. This still leaves issues with the internal calibration
of bits and bobs.
The fluke 1652b should pump out about 15mA on a no trip Zs test, mine was giving 32mA ,no check box is gonna fix this
best get it calibrated

Hi all

I have read this thread and thought I would post to get your opinion on the following:

I work for a software development company who make software for the PAT Testing Industry.

We are currently working on a project to create a piece of software that will manage and analyse interim calibration results for all types of electrical test equipment not just PAT testers.

The software has the following advantages over a paper based system:

· Automatic calculations
· Plots graphs
· Prints reports
· Produces a certificate

I would be grateful if you could let me know whether this type of system would of use to you.

If you would like more info please PM me.

Kind regards,
Lorna
