did a part rewire 2 years ago 17th edition split load board, was called out tonight 2nd rcd not working after western power had been working on a main few doors away turns out when they switched back on the phase they were working on this rcd took the full brunt and damaged it. nice one western power!!!

Hell of a result Sedgy then. Thanks indeed to the DNO

can you believe it!!! also before i got my shoes on i had spoken 3 times on the phone to customer to go through the norm" you know unplug everything reset rcd etc" after they did all that i thought i will go and disconnect the neutrals to find the fault.
i wish all callouts were like that happy days!!!

How were you able to determine that it was the DNO that caused it to stop working & what was your diagnosis? Just interested in case it ever happens to me.:)

customer told me they had no problems since i did the works 2 years ago and today they had a power cut and dno wer few doors away changing a main incomer, so im thinking ok theyve had a major fault in the road and they are changing a main incomer cause its fried and when switched back on a good surge and pop there you go next house inline suffered damage to rcd. just to elimiminate any coincidance ive disconnected all neutrals on rcd and tried to reset it but it wont have it, thats all mate

Have you spoken to the DNO about it? What you say does point towards your theory. It's not conclusive though.

not yet no!! but with 240v going in to rcd and it wont reset all neutrals disconnected on neutral bar nothing else it could be as everything is eliminated the other rcd is working perfectly.

Sorry sedge, wasn't questioning the outcome, merely that it was DNO that caused it. Does sound more than mere coincidence, I grant you.
