Hi.

We recently had an alarm installed by ADT

They have laid the Alarm wires Under neath the carpet.

Whilst we were cutting the carpet, the wires also got cut.

Some one told me the wires should never had been put under the carpet as its against UK regulations.

Is this true and what regulation number is it?

Thanks

no reg.prohibiting it. it's common practice. what i usually do is route under floors where practicable, and when under the carpet, cut the underlay so there's a channel for the alarm cable.

You have to balance the cost of the install versus the disruption in the house. My guess is that the install was done ok and that the carpet/cable cutting is your problem

ADT (any damn time), gone down hill over the last few yrs, there used to be some quality installers, now its smash and grab and rip your back teeth out. Probably blagged them there ARC services are the best.

MY alarm system, plus 2 German Shepherds, and a wife going through change of life is enough to deter any wannbee intruder lol

i worked as a alarm fitter for a few months and they told us to staple the cable to the top of the skirting board and around the architrave, as far as i am aware there is no reg that states you cant put the cable under the carpet as i have seen this done loads of time

staple the cable to the top of the skirting board and around the architrave,

R.A.F. sounds as bad as BT. i would never install an alarm system in a domestic where cabling was on show.

My preferred method is under floor,if not possible then in the gap between gripper rod and skirting, clips are not an issue as pro's use a tacker gun.
