Can I swap a switch for a plug

hi I have a fridge freeze that in wired into a switch that turns it on and off with no socket! Getting a new fridge delivered and instead off cutting the plug and trying to chase it up the wall and into the switch can I just change the switch for a single socket?

shouldn't be a problem as long as you are competent to do it.

Have you oulled the fridge out to see how it connects? Normally a switch like that would control either a socket or a connection plate behind the applience or in an adjacent cupboard.

If it is actually wired directly into that switch then yes you could change it for a single socket. However, wiring directly into that switch and chasing the applience flex into the wall is a very strange, non standard way of doing it, and may suggest whoever did it didnt know what they were doing. So it may be worth having the rest of the kitchen wiring inspected and tested.

As in #4 there is every chance there is a socket outlet behind the fridge.

As already posted there'll be more than likely a socket already there. Top tip, if using this sort of set up don't use a switched socket, always a pain when you struggle to get the appliance in and the switch is off...

I'd guess more likely a socket behind the fridge as well or at the worst a flex outlet similar to the link, which could be changed to a socket.
The chances of someone having run the flex up in the wall to the switch are about zero.

There's got to be a single socket for the fridge controlled by the D.P. switch and the other D.P. switch must control something else.

Thinking about it the fridge definitely shouldnt be connected directly to that switch if the switch is fed from an RFC as there is no fuse present to protect the appliance flex.

I’ve seen something similar where a 3/4 conduit was buried in the wall with a slight bend, leaving the end of the pipe exposed. The appliance flex was pushed up the pipe to what was a SFCU

On that information then just get the D.P. switch replaced with the single socket.
