A study by the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) confirms that late payment for subcontractors is endemic across the sector, as main contractors fail to pass on prompt payment terms from clients.

If the Govnt brought in a new rule of "send the boys round" after 30 days, I'm sure that payments would be made far more quickly to the lowly subbie.

It would be far, far better, for the SME, if we could automatically add a percentage to overdue payments.

Time spent chasing up late payments is a right pain!

It's the same with HMRC,my brother in law was told he hadn't paid enough tax,his accountant said he had but HMRC said if he didn't pay up they'd charge interest.He paid up and 6 months later they sent him a cheque for the amount he'd paid saying there was a mistake and he didn't owe it after all,he rang them and asked where was the interest at X% per day.There reply was "no that's if you're late paying us not the other way around".
