Hello im looking at doing the 2382 course but i dont fancy forking out ÂŁ450 for the full 3 days course, ive looked at the update course and it says you can do the update course if you have a Level 3 Electrical Certificate such as 2330,2351,2360 part 2, which i have.

Am i reading this right?

Cheers

Yes, you are reading it correctly. However there appears to be some confusion amongst centres. I was made to do the full course instead of the Update course even though City & Guilds guidance suggested I was eligible for the Update.

So in short I'm not sure what the centre you're intending to do it at will say!

Upgrade exam is on changes between the 16th edition and the 17th edition if you are 15th or lower as Lenny states it would have to be the full 60 question exam.

Depending on who you talk to (as is evident in this thread:D), you may or may not be able to do it. I've always been told with 2330 L3 you can do the update exam.

Best thing to do is speak to the centre and find the C&G guidance on being able to take the update exam incase they insist you to do the full exam (I would find it for you but their site is down).

All the update course teaches you is the main differences between the two.

It does depend on th qual that you do have and when it was obtained....i.e 2330 2360....

This is from my local training consultants

To be eligible for enrolment onto the Update Course, candidates must be able to provide certificated evidence of achievement in one of the following awards...
  • 2381 16th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671: June 2001
  • 2330 Level 3 - Installation or Maintenance
  • 2360 Electrical Installation - Part 2 (January 2004 onwards)
  • 2351 Certificate in Knowledge of Electrical Installation Engineering (only if achieved as part of an Electrotechnical Advanced Apprenticeship completed post 1st January 2004)

You can only update to the 17th if you have a 16th ed qual obtained after June 2001.

Other than that it's the full 17th course.

are u sure this is right as i was under the impression it was any one who had done 16th since june 2001, i only say this as im on verge of getting 17th update( ive been a bit lazy ) and i got my 16th on 17th june 2001,, and just hoping you are wrong for my sake:eek:

look at the list of above qualifications, if your doing an UPDATE 2381 17 th edition, which qualification are you updating?? this reminds me of a technical understanding question i had at an aptitude test on Monday for a new job, only dumbed down tenfold.

I have a question.

Am I correct in saying that the 17th Regs book actually tells you at the front near the index on what parts have been updated from the 16th.So reading those chapters is probably what the course goes over?Coz i'm thinking if you read these and just sit the exam........for us tight gits who don't like parting with a penny
