Can you draw this on Pv_Sol?

Hi,

Is anyone able to confirm whether or not its possible to draw on pv_sol a roof shape like the one attached? Im really struggling to add the side valley's. It seems you can only produce a rectangular type roof area.

If it is possible how can i achieve it?

It is fairly easily designed, but you can't design it with panels overlapping both roof sections which hugely limits it's use. It'll probably make it into a £700 update one day.

Alternatively, you can be a little clever. Design the roof bigger to fit your panels on to get your calculations. And then build the roof out of two separate buildings for your layout pictures.

Start with a half-hip roof then remove the first attic / roof layer (I'm presuming your showing the elevation for panels, not the gable end - or is it a flat roof with steep sides?)

Yes just like that! I cant see how you get it to even look like that, is it as Worcester says with the half hip?

I am trying to get the size on the see if i can fit 4KW on, and also show the layout, i think at this rate il just get the scaled rule out and do it by hand!

It should be so much easier to do it for the money it costs!

Both are doable starting with the half-hip roof

Its basically as Solarcity has drawn it, its the south facing elevation, i think il have one last go using the two buildings, but its still difficult to even see if the measurements are the same on Pv_sol as they are on the roof

Do it on the simple rectangular roof then use trapezoidal restricted area tool to put on two triangles to cover the cutaway bit. Won't look right in terrain view but you can see exactly how many panels will fit. Need a negative shift width value to do the second triangle though.

Just do it in the 2d design first , it is really simple and less than a 5 minute job. There is no way you'll get 4 kw on a single side of a roof that size, think 16 x 1m wide x 1.65 high panels.

To start just draw it out on a pice of graph paper.

To do it in 3D mode:

1. Design the building as normal but add new roof storey.
2. For the lower roof level, make sure you finish with a flat roof on top which is the same size as the bottom of the upper section of roof.
3. Design the upper section of roof as normal.

Does that method allow you to place panels across the join of the two roofs? Assuming that they're on the same plane.

Not as far as I can tell. A pretty basic flaw in the software I think.

I think it could be a lot easier to use for the money, even the 2D version has you banging your head against a wall.
I stuck to the scaled rule and can just a bout get 15 Panels on with a couple in landscape on top.
