A mate in Canada sent this to me...

A guy did the Canadian equivalent of notifiable work without the required permits/licensed membership and got a few days jail time and a whopping great $50,000 fine! All for installing lights without the relevant paperwork or qualifications in place.

If only the British authorities clamped down in this way.. would send a strong message out and deter cowboys and fly by night fake electricians

I fully agree and sincerely hope that SELECT's campaign to persuade the Scottish Government to officially recognise electricians as professional people and to create a new criminal offence of working while unqualified to do so will be successful. Fingers crossed.
