customer has brought some fire rated downlights from, u guessed it screwfix :punk: however i was fitting these in the upstairs hall, and as normal i have a play with them while there on, well theses bleeders run hot, i mean real hot!! just slightly concerned that they are a fire risk, what do you think??

People need to learn that 'fire rated' does not equal 'won't catch things on fire' - it means they are designed to not allow hot air/smoke to permeate from one construction fire compartment to another. Commonly in a domestic, this just means that the 30min plasterboard stays at just that. A GU10 will always run hot (and within reason they will all run at more or less the same temperature no matter what they are plugged in to [no, I don't know what that is]). Some are just worse than others, and it's up to you as the installer to make a judgement call on the chances of them igniting any adjacent combustible materials (and more likely, burning their own cable out).

could not overtuned terracotta plantpots help here....assuming you have access to do this of course.....would this not keep combustables away from the cans?...or would this just exasperate the situation?....

guys this was just a question on my part, i have changed the fittings for, what i normally use, m16 aurora cans, and theses are a lot better, my point being was surly there should be some sort of check on these fittings???(iv used crap (supplied by others) before but this runs shockingly hot!!) we all know when we fit stuff its correct but for example, the have the loft re-insulated they just put it over lights, it becomes a problem.
just wondering what your thoughts are?
