Just done a job connecting a fused spur on a ring to be used to supply a 2KW fire. When I came to do the testing (Minor Electrical Installation Work) I was unable to get the CU cover off. This was due to the customer fitting the kitchen cupboard tight up to the bottom of the CU and the ceiling slightly running down. I tested the ring from the socket and got figures for R!+R2, insulation values, ZS & RCD times. All were ok.

I checked the water bonding but could not see a direct bond on the gas only supplementary bonding across the central heating and gas pipe near the boiler.

How would you all fill in the form, detail this as a departure or just as comments.

Your comments would be appreciated.

Err, cart before the horse?
Should you not have checked all this before doing the work to realise the CU cover could not be removed?

I guess you'll just have to muddle through the cert as best you can now and make some sort of comment on the form?

The consumer unit must be accessible so that faults can be traced. this may be needed in an emergency situation.
You should write a letter to the ciustomer advising him that you are unable to carry out further work until the items in the way are removed or altered.
This may be some ceiling chopping or carpentry work.

You have to be able to get in there.

Did you not notice the position of the CU, when you isolated the circuit?

Yes, of course I noticed the position of the CU prior to isolation. What I did not notice was the slight dipping of the ceiling. The cover can be removed but only about 15mm before it is jammed between the ceiling and the top of the kitchen cupboard.
