motor runs fine if i give it a push. i assume the cap in the pic is a dual start/run. only shows 1 value (4mfd) so does that mean it's 2 x 4mfd caps in the one can? assuming that.best place to get one?

don't get big-headed though. your doors are only 2'6" wide.(that's 900 millipedes for the younger plebs).

dunno.might just be a start cap. will know more when replacement has gone in.

Looks like a regular run cap for a PSC motor. If there's no centrifugal switch or relay, there can't be a start cap, which would usually be more than 4μF. What's the application?

motorised curtains. on a timer.when the control unit gets 240V motor runs 1 way. removal of the 240V sends motor other way. in either case motor runs if given a nudge but won.t start on it's own.

I had the same problem with my dryer. The drum would only turn if I helped it. I changed the cap for one I bought from Ebay for about £4 ish. Did the job perfect and kept the missus in a employed.lol

PSC then, two identical windings with common N, cap bridged between the two live ends. To open, C/O relay makes winding A live via limit sw, winding B becomes the cap winding. To close, relay makes B live, A becomes cap winding so phase shift is in opposite direction. Expect two leads on the cap will be the windings and the other two the feeds from the limit switches.
