Clucky

Hello everybody - I hoping someone can help. Just ordered some cables for a re-wire on a small semi, (1mm for lights, 2.5mm for sockets) and I need to get some capping. The rooms will be plastered so I'm going for the metal ones. My question is, what width should I buy for that size cable and do I need two pieces per fitting (i.e. one for each individual run of cable) or do both cables go in one?
Don't worry - I'm not fitting it just buying the parts :)

Thank you!

generally, socket drops , both cables in one "double" capping. i use this for everything as it doesn't matter if you only put 1 cable in . bit of extra space and you don't have to worry about buying different sizes.

Thank you very much for the reply, what size capping would you suggest for 2.5mm cable - they come in a few different ones? Also what are the pro's and cons of steel capping v plastic. The room will be plaster boarded and skimmed following installation so I'm not sure which would be the best option.

plastic is a lot easier, less hitting thumbs with hammer. . best job is made with ega tube. easier to replace cables in case of damage in future

OK so here's a 3rd opinion:
If you are the client then you would do much better by letting your installer buy ALL the materials. The only pro for a client supplying his own materials would be to save a few pounds. The cons are potentially catastrophic and far outweigh the pros.

38mm PVC for me less chance of hitting a cable and masonary nails longe one for get the capping nails as they are a pian and damage the capping would way prefer steal but these time the cost counts

If it's being plasterboarded then skimmed the builders I've worked with prefer chasing oval conduit into block then use 35mm boxes left proud of wall by 10mm or so. This makes marking and cutting out the box holes easier, as you just offer the plasterboard up to wall and bang the back of it against edge of box, then cut out using the marks left on rear of board.
