Hi guys, first post just came across this forum so thought id ask the pro's before pulling my hair out even more..

Anyway, I pulled onto my driveway and all of a sudden my music just turned off, I look down to see my headunit has powered off and refuses to turn back on. When i took the face off the red light is flashing so there is power going to it?

I then noticed my clock backlight went off and I was also unable to change the time. Finally I realised that my dashboard was very delayed (about 10-15 seconds) when i turned on my engine, the needles would normally shoot up straight away.

I am almost certain these 3 faults are linked. My friend who is a student electrician had a look and assumed it was the fuses or relays, he proceeded to check and change but it seemed that was not the problem. He now beleives there was a short but is unable to locate where.

If anybody knows what this might be I would really appreciate some feedback because i recently spent alot of money on my sound sytem and im unable to use it.

p.s. I did change my headunit and the same happens, power is going to it but it will not display anything nor play any music.

my first pointr to look at would be the battery terminals, high resistance under load. similar thing happens when you turn the key to start, everything goes dim.

sounds like a bad earth problem to me. You will find them behind driver and passenger kick panels. Or the other possibility is a fuse blown, there may be more than 1 fuse box, ie: under dash & under bonnet. There is nearly always 2 fuses for a radio, 1 for the memory feed (stays live all the time, usually 5amp-ish) and a main power fuse which will go live on ignition key positions 1 & 2 (usually a 10-15 amp fuse). Just looking on Autodata you need to check fuse numbers 6, 19, 22 for radio & earth point 4 which is behind drivers kick panel.

Hope this helps.
