Blues r tingly

Hey guys, no-one i know deals with caravans and i require to install the electrical supply for the static unit to plug into, the units cu is rated to 40amp with a blue 4mm arctic flex and 32amp male commando to connect to, this inturn seems odd to me as the unit will never be able to draw more than 32amp so y have a 40amp breaker?
Any thoughts would be appreciated, i know if i put a 32amp 30mA rcbo on the female it will not matter but it will not reach its proposed design?

Hi Blues,

The link that Richard gave you (Thanks Richard) to the Fastlec site for Rolec only shows 16A outlets, but knowing the manufacturer, I think they'd be able to come up with a 32A socket version without it being a daft price. Let me know if you want me to look into something a bit more bespoke for you.

I think peeps have overlooked the fact that it's a static caravan, not a park 'hook-up'.

32A ceeform (commando) would be perfectly normal in this situation. To the OP - the fact that the device used to make the connection has a maximum rating (32 amps) does not mean that it can't be overloaded, it's only 3 brass pins - nothing clever! Therefore, the fuse protection at each end is what matters. You could change the 40A internal fuse in the caravan for a 32A if you felt happier, or just as easily make your supply end 40A and change the ceeform to a 63A one - so long as the internal fusing was still correct for the size of cable. You also need to refer to the relevant regs as mentioned above for RCD protection requirements.

Cheers guys, great help
i was planning on putting the static on a 32amp rcbo after putting a sub cu in from mains position but after further investigation there is a 63amp 30ma rcd that is directly fed from the mains meter , TT system so surely whole Setup is protected, putting a 32amp 30ma rcbo in would only cause issues with discrimination between devices or not? The plan was to take tales out of the henley to a sub meter then on to a 63a mains breaker feeding a 16mm swa (overkill) supplying a small consumer unit bear the static position where i would have 32a for static 16a for freezer/tumbleD and 6a for outside lighting
thoughts appreciated
