Hi everyone,

I am currently working as a multi-skilled maintenance technician in a busy production environment tackling mechanical jobs as well as electrical jobs, I want to move from the industrial environment to domestic electrical work. I currently have a level 3 extended diploma in engineering, a NVQ level 3 in engineering and also have my 17th edition. Is there any other qualifications I could attain to make me more suitable for a domestic environment, I am comfortable in doing most domestic work but would like to extend my skill set before entering the domestic world.

Haha thanks for that, I genuinely hate working in a factory, the 12 hour shifts are awful especially at this time of the year, go to work in darkness and finish work in darkness, I miss the sun light lol

Why woUld you think that Domestic work needs any further qualifications than you already hold FFS?? These wannabe backdoor chancers that hold just the 17th are deemed competent to enter the domestic sector, .....if they can cough up 500 notes to a scam provider!!

Oh and you won't be extending your skill set, entering the domestic sector will at best hold the skills you already hold in limbo!!

I've just moved from being a domestic, industrial electrician to a muti skilled maintenance engineer and I can say what you are doing is a mistake. Why don't you find a job with double days shifts in the maintenance role. Domestic work is dusty work. I know I didn't enjoy crawling around in loft spaces with the itchy insulation.

It may be a mistake but I can always go back to maintenance if I wanted to, just would like to give it a go, as part of my apprenticeship I did touch on domestic stuff in the first year and I really enjoyed it, a lot more than what I do now, there's no harm in doing something different for a few years is there?

...Don't go expecting any more sunshine in the domestic job ...you may have more fun as a "tribute" in the "Hunger Games"...:icon12:

City&Guilds 2393 (building regulations for electricians). Prob about ÂŁ120. Its the closest course to "part p". But ffs don't be going to enroll on stupid part p courses. They ain't worth ****. You can do with getting the book aswel. IET publication, electricians guide to building regulations. About ÂŁ20 delivered from amazon.

This aswell as 2365 level 2 diploma should stand you in good stead for domestic work but the 2365 may take you 12months @ 1 day a week to complete whereas the 2393 is 2days max.
Check local colleges and Google.
