New to this forum so not sure what to expect from it.

About me: 47 years old, used to be a mortgage adviser but due to several governments incompetencies, lost my job and career because as they're so fond of saying, "there's no money left".
Anyhow, three years ago I decided a career change was in order and Ive just finished 2330 level 3 and looking to complete the 17th edition in next 4 weeks.
Any advice on how to get a job, or in fact any advice at all would be most welcome.
Many thanks
Eric

Hello and welcome, have a good read on here with all the hassles and red tape these poor sparks have to put up with, loads of people think it's an easy job to get into (which in a way it is) but to really know it takes years and years of experience out in the field to be competent.
No offence to anyone.

Hi and welcome Eric. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^as above^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ apart from "which in a way it is" the only way for it to be easy to get a job is to go self employed. Then your troubles begin! But don't let us put you off. Go for it!

Ive applied for literally dozens of electricians mates jobs but had no luck so far. Im hoping that getting my 17th edition exam behind me will open a few more doors. Does anyone know if its this thats holding me back?

Possibly, but in this economic climate there is not much work about. I have been self employed for over 20 years and the last 2 years this are the worst i have ever known it!

Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately because the media and training centres are fond of telling everyone the money is in trades there are hundreds of thousands of people in your situation.
I don't think it was ever easy to walk straight out of training and into a job, and it's a lot harder now that there isn't much work around, but if you stick with your original 'career change' plan I expect you'll find something sooner or later.
