Hi,

I am a 35 year old electronics engineer working on test development side of things. I have been really unhappy and stressed in my job and am looking to change careers. As someone with a degree in electronics and keen to work more physically rather than sitting behind a computer, I am thinking about becoming an electrician, preferably working on renewables such as solar panels and vehicle charging points (as an installer/fitter). I am a bit confused what certification I will need to change careers. Since I work in a related field, I am keen to omit the apprenticeship part of the process. I understand I will need NVQ 3 and 18th Edition certificate. But is this the right route? Any advice will really appreciated. Paw

You will definitely need to be able to inspect and test also. And be able to fill in the necessary certificates.

The market is flooded with people thinking like you. Get into something specialised or make yourself stand out. Everything else is a race to the bottom

Become a wet pants or carpenter , you honestly can’t find One in my area who isn’t fully booked up until September (I’m not kidding)
