hi guys and gals,

just wondering i guess im slowly starting to get the ball rolling on my 10 year life plan. once i've finished at college passed my exams/ AM2 and am qualified up to 17th edition what is this qualification worth to Americans, Australians, Canadians etc. people always tell me these places need electricians (maybe not right now because of the current climate) just wondered if i would have to do extra courses/ exams if i ever made it to one of these places?

any one any idea?

Qualifications tend to count in other countries. After all, they show your knowledge and what you can do and that is all that matters. In some cases you may be required to do a short course to learn the specifics of how things work in that country.

My mate as just spent a fortune passing assessments etc to work in Australia and he's a full blown Apprenticed Trained JTL/JIB Electrician, he never bothered with the 2391, so can not get an Approved ticket, not that hes bothered.

Once he gets out to Australia he has to work as a mate for a minimum of two years.

The requirements in NSW. Don't know about other states in Australia:

Electrical - NSW Fair Trading

Note the comment: "Remember, it is an offence to undertake electrical wiring work without a licence or certificate. You can be fined $2,200 as an individual or $22,000 as a company for doing unlicensed electrical work."

Oh if only it were like that here :)

Your british qualifictions are worth nothing abroad, I live and work outside of the UK for at least 6 month of every year and have for the past 15 years. Look at the country and contact C&G and they can help with the particular country and its cross over and what you need to be a spark in that country.

Believe me. I have lived and worked in Queensland, and there are still PLENTY of guys working there with no ticket.
There are cowboys Everywhere!!

Twenty or so years back, as phase11 of the HK's MTRC project was nearing it's completion, an Aussie (Elec Eng) friend that wanted to stay on in HK applied for several positions, two of which were direct employment by HK government. In both cases he was rejected as his Aussie degree was not recognised!!! It turned out, that only one university in Aussie satisfied the educational requirements laid down by not only the HK government, but also the UK government!!! How things have changed in 30 years, ...probably now it is the exact opposite!! ...lol!!!

By the way, he did find a position eventually, but with an international Japanese contractor working on one of the projects that he got rejected for, by the HK government. So, instead of supervising this project, he had to pull his finger out and do some work as the contractors supervising Engineer!! ...lol!!! Let me tell you, ...it's a big difference!!! ...haha!!!
