Hi guys I've got a couple off questions a client has asked if I could put some data point in there new office.befour I take the job on I'd like to gain so knowledge please. Is it just a case off connecting into the existing router port in cat5e running the cable into another router in the new office, then for my data points just use the spare ports in the new router?

How many data outlets do they want???
is it category 5e or category 6 ???

each individual computer cable should be terminated onto a patch panel within a comm's cabinet then run to the outlet locations and tested with a level 3 cable analyser, fluke etc, cables can then be patched individuality to a router or network switch.

not another router its a network switch you need and each point will need to go back to the network switch and a link from the switch to the router all in cat5e

A network switch is a device will intellegiently transfer data from one connected device to another. The connected devices could be a PC and a printer

When I say intellegiently what that means is that it can decipher which piece of data is going to which device thus avoiding "flooding" all the connected devices with data which was intended only for a particular device.

A simple analogy would when soldiers were sent mail their names were shouted out...so it would "James" ..answers "yes"...Sargent gives him the his letter. However if the Sargent shouted "mail from London"...everyone would say "yes..me..me"

This way data is speeded up because it orderly.

Switches creat a network whilst routers connect networks.

I hope this helps
