Hi,

Have a full rewire coming up. Will also be cabling for satellite/tv around the house. Additionally, would like to drop cat5 (or should this be cat5e, or cat6?) to every room for future use:- phone lines, computer network and HDMI spring to mind. The latter will, I think, require some additional equipment such as a sender and receiver.

The cat cable would be run to a central location where I believe I will need a 'patch panel' (although I have no idea what this is, or how it works!). Presumably, I would need to bring in the BT line from the master socket and then connect in star formation (via patch panel) to a cat cable drop in every room that requires a phone line. Should I also drop an extra two cat cables to each room for future expansion.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

IMO cat5e is adequate. and reasonably priced . you would have a patch panel at the router/hub location, to which you would connect your cat5e cables.
