can i wire from a 16A mcb to a 40A 30mA rcd then to a socket outlet( 13A) in 2.5mm twin and earth. or is the rcd to large.
 
as lenny says, but you can use a 40A RCD, the 40A is just the max. rated currentcapacity of the RCD, bear in mind it's not an overload device.
