domestic spark

what would one price for a CU change. obv this would involve the initial periodic and installation cert at the end. this price to start with lets assume no alteration needs doing in the property. (broken accessories/ 10mm main bonding to services etc)

also what would one charge for 10mm2 run to gas/water services

thankyou

Bit of a strange question there really. It depends on the size of the installation. How many circuits etc. The bonding again depends on length of run an the complexity of the routing.

If it is a straight ten way board change without any bonding etc to be updated I'd say £300 in my area. As for installing bonding? Depends on the run, length of run and the amount of time taken.

It depends on:

1) How long the job will take.
2) How much will the materials cost.
3) How much money would you like to do the job.
4) How much the customer is prepared to pay you for it !!!

Just to show how its nigh on impossible to answer your question,so many factors,so take price alone

If you quoted £ 300 in my area, they would want pure gold leaf decoration around the edges of the board. and a voucher for an holiday for 2 in Porthcawl for that price, thats based on £ 50 in B+Q and some pocket money for someone to shove it in

Des I'm only saying what the standard charge is in my area (Leeds) without any remedial works, if bonding was is place on a ten way hagger board including tails (up to 3m) and tested with certificates issued and notified.

Of course Dave down at the pub can do it for £120 in a couple of hours, I don't.

Each area has different prices across the UK, this is my price. Maybe a bit cheaper for OAP's.

I charge £200 plus any travel over 15 miles in my area.

Thats based on a 12way Hager (with 10 MCBs)

Then any problems are extra (bonding, new add ons, changes, fault finding, etc)

I also do a package with 12way Hager (with 10 MCBs) and labor for potential problems that may ocour in installation (as you never know) for £250.

I only offer this £300 to customers I have seen the house and the condition of the wiring before hand and a valuation of the person (are they likely to have messed with it before?) - this reduces chance of having to fault find after installation.

It works well, as most only takes a day and they agree to it before, if you have to go back a 2nd day for problems and they dont take that option then it works out alot more expensive.

Paul, thanks for the reply,my reply wasn't a critisism of yours or anybodys price,it was to show hopefully with a bit of humour, how asking for a set price is almost impossible to answer
We all know what the job entails if its done proffesionally and we all know the battle we have to compete for the work against some of the clowns out there
Its the type of work that paints an expensive, little to show cost for the general public who know no better

I say to all who do these type of jobs, price what you think you and the job deserves and couple that with what the customer will pay and make your decision on whether its acceptable to both you and the customer who is almost to a man ignorant of what it does entails

Des I think I'm doing it wrong mate. Instead of advertising I should save that money and just sit in a pub all day long with an electricians t-shirt on and let the customers come to me!

It's difficult to put a standard price on a cu change so this thread will end up being a bit of an argument because of the areas and time that each sparky works in.

Alex powers, £27 all in LOL. I'll subby you out on the next job ;);).

Nicholas 200 for a a ccu change is very cheap!

This at the moment is the going rate in Pembrokeshire - based on everything else being in place - i.e. Bonding.

If I go much higher I will be above the majority of more experienced and longer running (more known) Electrical Contractors in the area.

There is alot of competition around here and everyone is fighting for the little work that is available, therefore reducing their prices all the time.

That really is a road to nowhere!!

It doesn't do anyone any favours - except maybe the customer.

What is needed is for all the sparks in the area to agree on what is a fair price & stick to it

That said, You may as well chuck jelly up a ladder !! :90:

well, i've just quoted £300 for a 10 way dual RCD board with a known problem of an existing fault causing the old MCB on the RFC to trip frequently. guy snapped my hand off as he had just been quoted £670 + fixing the fault as additional.
