Discuss CE marking and contravention in the Commercial Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

We are often reminded here that we are to uphold legislation with regards to CE marked equipment... yet I've been informed that as soon as we add in interlock controls from upstream and downstream systems we have, in effect, contravened said CE certification of machines.

Any truth in this?

We all must have integrated different manuf. of equipment into a line forming a system.

Ah... no takers... all soap boxes of the knowledgable have been kicked back under the sideboard when a specific question is asked!!!

I know not the in's & out's & legal side of CE regulations

But if a machine has been tested & CE marked as a whole package, then surely any addition must be likewise tested & certified as part of the package to conform with CE regulations.

I do know a man who would know, he may drop in who knows.

If you are applying controls to a piece of equipment from outside and not integrating them into the specific unit then this should be OK, if you are modifying the internal control structure of the inside of the equipment then you are changing the standard to which it has been constructed, unless it has been designed to accept a variety of modifications.
That is my thoughts.

As above, somewhere, if you are only turning the C.E'd machine on and off externally then C.E is not compromised.

Are these groups of machines being resold as a package or is this just assembling C.E machines for use within a location.

Or is Hypertheoretical??

I'm on about a line of packaging machinery of mixed manuf. Individual control systems of each CE marked machine has provision for upstream and downstream interlocks albeit not interlocked by a common line e/stop.

I will seek clarity on the original comment and return with some form of elaboration.

DoC or a Col ???

Thanks so far.
