Discuss CE or BS? in the Talk Electrician area at ElectriciansForums.net

Afternoon,
Does anyone know is a light fitting with a CE logo on it is the equivalent of having a BS number on it?
i.e BS EN 60598?
Thanks

No, it isnt.
CE marked means it conforms to European directives, but that does not necessarily mean it is equivalent to any BS standard.
There are also many products stamped with CE that have not been certified, mainly from China.
If it is a reputable seller, then it may well be suitable for use here, but it is up to the Installer/designer to make sure it is good enough to use to comply with BS7671 if used in an electrical install.
What is CE Marking (CE mark)?

Thanks
I have about 4 light fittings from B&Q, none of which have a BS number, couple have CE markings. Can I assume these are up to BS standards if they are from a reputable firm like these?
Thanks
Craig

Thanks Westward, and that last paragraph with the Note about no characteristic marking is exactly what I needed to see.
